Westminster is among the suburban communities ringing Denver to the north. Westminster has the distinction of being first populated by Jim Baker, one of the early "Mountain Men" who explored the western frontier, leading the way for later settlers. From its earliest beginnings as an agricultural community during the Gold Rush days, Westminster today is a modern, progressive suburban community with a population of 105,000. Blending a mix of old ranches and new housing developments, Westminster is a vibrant, young community.

One of the outstanding amenities provided by Westminster is the City's system of trails and open spaces. The city has 2,355 acres of natural open space and more than 40 miles of outdoor trails which connect it to the rest of the Denver metro area and the mountains to the west. In July 2006, Money Magazine ranked Westminster as the 24th "Best Place to Live in America".
